Movement Research Performance Journal
Movement Research Performance Journal is a publication created by and for artists, fostering the evolution of written and graphic languages that address current issues of dance and performance. mrpj.org opens a new arena for this print publication, a space to rehearse emergent thought and practice online.
Editorial History
Movement Research Performance Journal provides a forum for critical, rigorous, and creative exploration of the politics of performance while addressing readers from a variety of disciplines. The first journal was printed in 1990, and developed out of Movement Research’s biannual class calendar, which artist and activist Richard Elovich recognized as an essential network for grassroots communication within the arts community during the AIDS crisis. Since its inception, the scope of mrpj has been guided by a series of artist-editors, including Cathy Edwards, Sarah Michelson, Trajal Harrell, Moriah Evans, and mayfield brooks. Each issue is unique, with content addressing the time in which it was produced and reflecting artists’ of-the-moment concerns. The journal’s mission remains the same as when it was founded: to provide artists with resources and opportunities to create the discourse that, in turn, shapes the field of performance.
